It was a chance for the students attending NorthWest Regional college to ask the mayor and other highly regarded figures in Derry\/LondonDerry questions about topics that concern the city, such as: unemployment, education, and the future of the economy of Derry. It felt as if we were watching our own students from St. Petersburg College in Florida asking the same questions that are on our minds at home. I felt amazed that even 4,000 miles away, people are going through the same economic hardships that we are going through in America. The people at the college were really\u00a0encouraging\u00a0the students to follow their dreams whatever they may be, and it was so enlightening to hear that from the mayor and highly regarded public figures.\u00a0It really felt like we had a chance to be immersed in their culture and be a part of (or just witness) some of the solution for just a &#8220;wee bit&#8221;\u00a0of time.<\/p>\n<p>The girls and I are all bonding so well and I know we will stay friends for a long time after the trip. We even have plans to attend each others birthday parties in the future! I absolutely love Derry and the rich history, culture, and food it has to offer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/study-abroad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/irish-cake-Copy1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-215\" title=\"irish cake - Copy\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/study-abroad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/irish-cake-Copy1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By the way, when people say that Irish food is bland, they are wrong! The food in Ireland, so far, has been some of the best I have had in my whole life. I can&#8217;t wait for each meal everyday because I know I will absolutely love it. I even purchased a cookbook of Irish soup and soda bread so I can bring home the tastes of my\u00a0wonderful\u00a0experience in this gorgeous country!
