{"id":177,"date":"2012-05-14T20:10:00","date_gmt":"2012-05-14T20:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/study-abroad\/?p=177"},"modified":"2024-01-29T11:58:30","modified_gmt":"2024-01-29T16:58:30","slug":"ireland-day-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/ireland-day-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland: Day 9 by Victoria Keech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/study-abroad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_2838.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/study-abroad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_2838-e1337025333270-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Well it is the ninth day here in Ireland, pictures and videos cannot compare to the beauty that must be seen with the human eyes in this gorgeous Emerald Isle. Today we took the two hour bus ride from Derry to Belfast and spent the afternoon at the recently opened Titanic Belfast museum. I have heard a lot about this new building because 100 years ago this April, Titanic left her birthplace in Belfast to her final resting place at the bottom of the Atlantic. As we took the bus around the corner, we all just gasped. The architecture and design of this gorgeous building is phenomenal! The museum has been strategically positioned upon Titanic&#8217;s original dry dock.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the exhibition, Titanic Belfast takes you through the hay day of Belfast, a booming industrial city, made famous for their ship craftsmen, then through the designing, building, and its maiden voyage. The museum has been so well done I was very impressed by the attention to detail. For example, in the maiden voyage section, there was a 360 degree computer animated tour aboard Titanic and I felt like I was aboard the ship, walking down that Grand Staircase. After the maiden voyage section we learned about the sinking of the ship, followed by Titanic culture and movies. The museum ended with a special IMAX type movie provided with footage from Robert Ballard the original discoverer of Titanic at the bottom of the ocean. I think that was my favorite part because I am so fascinated how after 100 years, she still hasn&#8217;t lost her original structure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/study-abroad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_2834.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/study-abroad\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_2834-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I highly recommend this museum to all those fascinated by the mystery and history of Titanic. There are one of a kind artifacts, experiences, and footage that cannot be seen anywhere else.
