International Day of Friendship: July 30 –\u00a0<\/em>Our world face many challenges, crises and forces of division \u2014 such as poverty, violence, and human rights abuses \u2014 among many others \u2014 that undermine peace, security, development and social harmony among the world’s peoples.<\/p>\n

To confront those crises and challenges, their root causes must be addressed by promoting and defending a shared spirit of human solidarity that takes many forms \u2014 the simplest of which is friendship.<\/p>\n

By accumulating bonds of camaraderie and developing strong ties of trust \u2014 we can contribute to the fundamental shifts that are urgently needed to achieve lasting stability, weave a safety net that will protect us all, and generate passion for a better world where all are united for the greater good.<\/p>\n

What is the International day of friendship?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The International Day of Friendship<\/a> was established in 2011 by UN General Assembly Resolution\u00a0A\/RES\/65\/275<\/a>. The day\u00a0builds on\u00a0the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World<\/a> (2001\u20132010)\u00a0and the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace<\/a>\u00a0adopted in 1999.\u00a0The International Day of Friendship serves as a reminder\u00a0to people around the world of the positive impact friendship can have in the promotion of peace, cross-cultural understanding and respect.<\/p>\n

The Eighth International day of Friendship\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year marks\u00a0the eighth observance of the\u00a0Day, which celebrates the participation of youth and leaders in building bonds of inclusion, empathy\u00a0and mutual respect in their communities. The International Day of Friendship affirms the principle that the forging of friendships positively contributes to the efforts of the international community and emphasizes the importance of supporting environments of peace and understanding among young people.<\/p>\n

How can you get involved?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To mark this day\u00a0United Nations Member States encourage individuals and communities as well as international organizations to participate in initiatives that promote international dialogue and solidarity among\u00a0citizens. Member States also encourage\u00a0the promotion of these ideals through education and public awareness-raising activities.
