{"id":17548,"date":"2018-08-06T13:52:57","date_gmt":"2018-08-06T13:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/?p=17548"},"modified":"2024-01-30T12:28:09","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T17:28:09","slug":"plaza-de-mayor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/plaza-de-mayor\/","title":{"rendered":"The Plaza de Mayor is the Center of Excitement in Salamanca!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2018\/07\/deanna-banks-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17550 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2018\/07\/deanna-banks-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"plaza de mayor \" width=\"401\" height=\"301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2018\/07\/deanna-banks-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2018\/07\/deanna-banks-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2018\/07\/deanna-banks-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/international\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2018\/07\/deanna-banks-2.jpg 1430w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/a>&#8220;Here is the Plaza de Mayor. &nbsp;It is grand. &nbsp;It is&nbsp;a place where we all meet as a group so we can&nbsp;go together to our destination. &nbsp;We meet directly under the clock.&nbsp;It is located in the center as all roads branch out from there. &nbsp;It is like a home base. &nbsp;If we were ever to get lost, it was comforting to know we could always start over by returning to the plaza. &nbsp;The plaza has everything you need or it is close proximity.<\/p>\n<p>What was amazing during my time to blog was the Festival of Lights. &nbsp;The Plaza de Mayor took on a face of its own. &nbsp;It was as is CAD designers met up with Graphic artist on Rocket fuel. &nbsp;Short films were made with the plaza structure back drop&nbsp;from many different country\u2019s students of graphic arts. &nbsp;It lasted for 1 1\/2 hours to innovative music. &nbsp;It started at 10:45 and ended at 12:30. &nbsp;To be honest I am usually wild and crazy til about 9pm however the night life doesn\u2019t get started til 10pm or so. &nbsp;I am happy that that I am getting use to staying up so late.&nbsp;It was spectacular!<\/p>\n<p>The Plaza de Mayor is where I saw my first ever Futbol game. &nbsp;The plaza was packed with fanatics as they live and die for the Espana team. &nbsp;Most restaurants\/cafeterias had outdoor dining with televisions to watch the game. &nbsp;The balconies had the Espana flag hanging for the spirit of their home team. It was a bit warm outside and with the sun reflecting we decided to get a table inside downstairs where it was cool with some great tapas. I learned so much about the game and now a fan of Espana Futbol, although I will always favor American Football. The plaza enlightened me to the culture of Spain. Eating tapas, drinking red&nbsp;wine and conversing with those around you is common. &nbsp;When asking for directions people are so friendly. It\u2019s delightful to&nbsp;read the menus, window shop and buy souvenirs or ice cream.&nbsp;The plaza will leave a&nbsp;fond place in my heart and&nbsp;memories for a lifetime. I count my blessings everyday, as everyday seems to surpass my expectations. So if you ever get the chance to study abroad&#8230;do it! I\u2019m sure you will not be disappointed. &nbsp;I am reminded by the words of Anthony Bourdain whose death has impacted my trip.&#8221;-Deanna Banks, SPC student, Spain
