The strong aroma of coffee and fresh, mountain air moved throughout the crowded streets, floating on chilly breezes. Sporadic showers fell on the centuries-old, stone staircases and Renaissance-styled buildings, wrapping them in a polished glow. Every element reflected the beautiful Italian culture that I quickly grew to love.<\/p>\n<p>Our time in Italy was filled with exploring beautiful churches, museums, and just the outstanding surroundings. On the day we arrived, we visited the Pontifical North American College which had an amazing view of St. Peter\u2019s Basilica from its roof. We also visited the Capitoline Museum and the \u201cCenter of Rome,\u201d which is where the phrase \u201call roads lead to Rome\u201d comes from. The Colosseum was breathtaking. It\u2019s impossible to realize its immense size by looking at pictures of it. Only when you see it in person can you recognize its magnificence. The Pantheon and Michelangelo\u2019s <em>David<\/em> were the same way.<\/p>\n<p>In the center of the Pantheon\u2019s dome is a circular cutout open to the sky above. I stood underneath it, imaging what it would be like if the Pantheon was empty and a light rain, or even snow, fell through the opening to the ground below. How magical would that be?<\/p>\n<p>We were also able to visit the Uffizi Museum. I\u2019ve never seen so many stunning frescoes in my entire life. Upstairs, there was a gallery that spanned the entire length of the building, covered with artwork and double doors on one side and towering windows on the other.<\/p>\n<p>If I tried to describe everything we did in detail, it would fill a novel.
