Studying abroad in Spain has been such a breathtaking experience. I don’t think writing this blog entry would do it justice. When I first decided I wanted to study abroad, I was excited but a little nervous at the same time. What was it going to be like? Dealing with the unknown can be a frightening concept but the culture, people, experiences here have been everything but that. The warmth these people radiate is something you have to experience first-hand. They are so willing to help foreigners with their Spanish, and treat strangers like family. My host mom has been so loving and my apartment mates have been like brothers and sisters to me and have definitely made this my home away from home.<\/p>\n
Aside from the beautiful people that live within this city, the sights are just as gorgeous. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought to myself “Is this real life? Am I really seeing this right now?” Salamanca is such a picturesque little city that it makes you wonder sometimes. There is so much history that was built within the structures such as the catedral vieja, universidad de Salamanca, etc. My favorite spot in Salamanca has been the garden of Calixto and Malibea. Absolutely beautiful greenery of a garden!<\/p>\n
Every weekend we went on excursions to different places. We visited Segovia, Avila, Alberca, Pe\u00f1a de Francia, and Rio Tormes to horseback ride through the river itself. Out of all the places we visited, though, Segovia has won my heart (close second; first is always Salamanca) The royal castle, narrow streets, little shops, and humongous aquifer are absolutely charming.<\/p>\n
Deciding to study abroad has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. The fear that came along with it in the beginning, quickly dissipated leading to a life-altering experience. I can’t wait to come back to Salamanca! This city has become a second home to me and for that I am forever grateful.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
