{"id":3883,"date":"2018-05-08T20:53:33","date_gmt":"2018-05-09T00:53:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/health-sciences-nursing-veterinary-technology-educational-information\/?p=3883"},"modified":"2024-01-30T15:44:39","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T20:44:39","slug":"hec-showcase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/health-sciences-nursing-veterinary-technology-educational-information\/hec-showcase\/","title":{"rendered":"SPC Student Success on Display at HEC Showcase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 100 students and faculty across 11 academic programs displayed research and celebrated student achievements at the spring St. Petersburg College Health Sciences and Veterinary Technology Open House and Reception &#8211; the HEC Showcase &#8211;\u00a0 in April.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Eric Carver, Provost for the Health Education Center (HEC), highlighted four takeaways after the center hosted this event in the fall and spring semesters.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Exploring student work<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/careers-internships\/?attachment_id=7810\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7810\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7810 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/careers-internships\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2018\/05\/20180419_172103-002-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of faculty and staff at Spring 2018 HEC Showcase\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Juliet Phaneuf, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/future-students\/degrees-training\/health-sciences-and-veterinary-technology\/physical-therapist-assistant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Physical Therapist Assistant<\/a> (PTA), displayed research on vascular therapy and is expecting to complete her Associate of Science degree in May, \u201cI\u2019m not crazy about talking in front of people, but this event is an opportunity to shine,\u201d she said about the April 19 open house and reception.<\/p>\n<p>Juliet\u2019s most remarkable takeaway during her tenure in the PTA program has been the discovery that she can help people on more than one level.<\/p>\n<p>As a part of Juliet\u2019s clinical rotations, she experienced the opportunity to work with patients who have post-traumatic stress disorders. \u201cI was able to develop personal connections where patients trusted me to assist them in working through their anxiety,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Direct contact with faculty at HEC Showcase<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/careers-internships\/?attachment_id=7812\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7812\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7812 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/careers-internships\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2018\/05\/20180419_174227-002-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Photo from Spring 2018 HEC Showcase\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>With smooth jazz lightly playing in the background, the atmosphere in the hospitality suite had a relaxing vibe.<\/p>\n<p>Students, families, faculty, staff, and community members had a chance to sit back, chat, and get a chance to know one another. Members of the community triad team commented on the ease of working with colleagues at HEC.<\/p>\n<p>James LeBeouf, Special Services Specialist in the <a href=\"https:\/\/go.spcollege.edu\/NIP\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Initiative Program<\/a> said, \u201cI was impressed to the extent that our faculty, career services, and administrative colleagues were more than happy to give their time and energy to make the event a success\u201d.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Access to more than 30 years of collective advising experience in the health disciplines at HEC Showcase<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>HEC academic advisors and faculty were on hand to meet with students, answer questions, and provide tours of the HEC\u2019s facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees visited the Simulation Center for Excellence in Nursing Education (SCENE), Dental Hygiene and Physical Therapist Assistant clinics, Funeral Services wing,<br \/>\nOrthotics and Prosthetics Lab, and Emergency Medical Services Bay.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>The Anatomage Table is here &#8211; new cutting edge technology to support our Allied Health Programs<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/careers-internships\/?attachment_id=7813\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7813\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7813 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/careers-internships\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2018\/05\/Anatomage-Table-002-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of medical equipment at HEC Showcase\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>An impressive highlight of the event was the demonstrations of the newly acquired Anatomage table.<\/p>\n<p>The cutting edge piece of technology is the result of the university partnership between the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/friends-partners\/about\/locations\/health-education-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health Education Center<\/a> and<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/friends-partners\/community-resources\/university-partnership-center\/degrees-by-institution\/national-university-of-health-sciences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> National University of Health Sciences<\/a> (NUHS), which exemplifies the synergy that is possible through innovation and collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>All interested individuals will be invited to upcoming training sessions on the equipment through the New Initiative Program.<\/p>\n<h5>Thank you from Provost Eric Carver<\/h5>\n<p>The Health Education Center\u2019s staff received a heartfelt thank you from Provost Eric Carver the day after the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to all for marketing, attending, and supporting our Student Success Showcase here at HEC yesterday evening. We had good attendance and great participation from faculty, students, staff, UPC partners, and the community,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I appreciate everyone\u2019s hard work, efforts, and perseverance through the long day yesterday. I\u2019m proud of the collaborative effort of the organizers and participants and how everyone &#8216;jumped in&#8217; to make this event a success.
