The Tampa Bay TechHire program<\/a> provides grants for free accelerated training and paid work experience opportunities to over 1,000 youth and young adults in high-growth industries. St. Petersburg College is an approved educational provider on this grant, and the Health Sciences Department<\/a> will provide training in Phlebotomy.<\/p>\n

The phlebotomy grant covers tuition, as well as lab and certification fees for the selected students.
\nAlong with any program-specific requirements for application, applicants for the TechHire grant must:
\n\u2022 Be between the ages of 17-29
\n\u2022 Possess a high school diploma or GED
\n\u2022 Be unemployed or underemployed<\/p>\n

\"phlebotomy<\/a><\/p>\n

St. Petersburg College Career Outreach Specialist David Hopkins said the program was seeing a wide variety of applicants for the phlebotomy grant.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve had individuals looking to get into health care for the first time, SPC health care degree seekers looking to pick up a certification on the side, CNAs or HHAs looking to find a new career path within the medical field, and 2016-17 high school seniors looking to pick up a certification,\u201d Hopkins said.<\/p>\n

Training will be offered on multiple campuses, or with sufficient enrollments, may be provided at local schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is different from a regular course, in that it is portable and we can do sessions on site for schools or organizations that might want to offer it to students or employees,\u201d Hopkins said.<\/p>\n

According to Hopkins, the program is definitely growing quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Phlebotomy class is growing very quickly. The first class had seven students, the second class had 10, and now the third section starting in March already has 23 enrollments and will probably have 30 by the time it launches the last week of March.\u201d<\/p>\n
