SPC offers training in growing industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the next 10 years, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or drones are expected to create more than 100,000 jobs with an economic impact of $82 billion. Florida stands to benefit more than almost any other state as new regulations will bring 3,000 new jobs and $632 million in economic impact to the state by 2017, according to the\u00a0Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnauthorized drone incursions with commercial aircraft and the drone crash during the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament this past summer have underscored the necessity for greater training of drone operators and greater awareness of airspace regulations. The FAA and the Department of Transportation is developing registration procedures for drone owners in advance of the expected Christmas gifting season,\u201d said\u00a0Dave Harvey, Fixed AGI, CFI pilot at Tampa Bay Aviation.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to\u00a0growing interest in and the use of drones, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/corporate-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Workforce Institute at Saint Petersburg College<\/a>\u00a0has <a href=\"http:\/\/spcollege.augusoft.net\/index.cfm?method=ClassListing.ClassListingDisplay&amp;int_category_id=1&amp;int_sub_category_id=337&amp;int_catalog_id\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">partnered with the nation\u2019s premier UAS Training and Certification Center to provide online courses and certifications<\/a>. Additionally, the college has partnered with a local aviation group to provide Private Pilot Ground School training and certification courses. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/education\/college\/college-notebook-new-boat-at-eckerd-campus-history-at-usfsp-drone-training\/2251738\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Times<\/a> recently reported about drone training at SPC.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/spcollege.augusoft.net\/index.cfm?method=ClassListing.ClassListingDisplay&amp;int_category_id=1&amp;int_sub_category_id=337&amp;int_catalog_id\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">An eight-hour introductory information class will be offered at the EpiCenter Dec. 5 from 8:30 a.m. &#8211; 4 p.m<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The introductory course will be offered through the Workforce Institute\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/learn-to-earn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Learn to Earn program<\/a> and will include appropriate use, FAA airspace, weather topics, resources for drone operators, and the process to petition the FAA for a \u201cCertificate of Waiver of Authorization\u201d (COA) for commercial drone operators in low-risk, controlled environments<\/li>\n<li>For more information and to be included in this $69 daylong course, please call 727-398-8466<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the next 10 years, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or drones are expected to create more than 100,000 jobs with an economic impact of $82 billion.
