Since the program was established in December 2016, there have been 196 enrollments in various drone classes.\u00a0 In October, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/Tampa-Bay-UAS-and-Drone-University\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UAS Student Meetup Group<\/a> was formed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_381\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-381\" style=\"width: 443px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/engineering-manufacturing-building-arts-educational-information\/spc-expands-drone-training\/uas-student-meetup\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-381\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-381 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/engineering-manufacturing-building-arts-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2017\/01\/UAS-Student-Meetup.jpg\" alt=\"Drone training\" width=\"443\" height=\"264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/engineering-manufacturing-building-arts-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2017\/01\/UAS-Student-Meetup.jpg 443w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/engineering-manufacturing-building-arts-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2017\/01\/UAS-Student-Meetup-300x179.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 443px) 100vw, 443px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-381\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Scott Huetteman discusses \u201cThe 14 Commandments of Freelancing Success\u201d during the UAS Student Meetup in December.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The goals of the monthly meetup are to allow students to share resources, network with other UAS users, and bring in guest speakers to provide information to our local UAS community.\u00a0 Guest speaker topics have included FAA regulations, liability insurance for drone operators, and steps to become an effective entrepreneur using a drone.\u00a0 This group is comprised of individuals that have taken one or more UAS classes at the college.\u00a0 Many of the participants have completed their UAS Remote Pilot Certificate.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2016, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/engineering-manufacturing-building-arts-educational-information\/spc-drone-training-faa-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FAA released new rules for non-hobbyist small unmanned aircraft (UAS) operations<\/a>, Part 107 of the Federal Aviation Regulations.\u00a0 These rules cover a broad spectrum of commercial uses for drones weighing less than 55 pounds, to include certification requirements for UAS pilots.<\/p>\n<p>Details for the next <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/Tampa-Bay-UAS-and-Drone-University\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UAS Meetup<\/a> are below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Date: Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Time: 6- 7:30 p.m.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Location: SPC Epicenter, Workforce Institute, Room 324, 13805 58<sup>th<\/sup> St. N. Features of Apple\u2019s iMovie editing program will be discussed and students will be instructed how to use this software for basic video editing and production purposes using iPad and iPhone.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/spcollege.augusoft.net\/index.cfm?method=ClassInfo.ClassInformation&amp;int_class_id=67494&amp;int_category_id=0&amp;int_sub_category_id=0&amp;int_catalog_id=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>1-day UAS Overview Course<\/strong><\/a> on Saturday, Feb. 4, 9 a.m. &#8211; 2 p.m., SPC Epicenter.\u00a0 This 1-day introductory course includes hands-on flight lessons for students, flight demonstrations and drone displays, FAA airspace regulations, appropriate use of drones, weather topics, and resources for drone operators.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/spcollege.augusoft.net\/index.cfm?method=ClassInfo.ClassInformation&amp;int_class_id=66923&amp;int_category_id=0&amp;int_sub_category_id=0&amp;int_catalog_id=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>5-day UAS Remote Pilot Certificate Prep<\/strong> <strong>Course<\/strong><\/a> on Feb. 13-17, (Mon-Fri) 4-8 p.m., SPC Epicenter. This 5 day course is designed to prepare students to pass the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate exam.\u00a0 The course will include UAS regulations, flight operations and restrictions, emergency procedures, crew resource management, radio communication procedures, aeronautical decision-making and judgement, and maintenance and pre-flight inspection procedures.\u00a0 This course also includes 3-4 hours of hands-on UAS flight training.<\/li>\n<li><strong>6-week Entrepreneurship course<\/strong> tentative for February, SPC Epicenter. Students will walk through many key steps and research points that will help them build a profitable and sustainable business.
