The ELITE<\/a> Educator students, a cohort in the College of Education (COE), were honored to host Dr. Michael Grego, Superintendent of Pinellas County Schools, at the Tarpon Springs Campus on Thursday, April 14.\u00a0 Dr. Grego spoke of his commitment to the ELITE students.<\/p>\n

Our Elite<\/a> Educator Program \u2013 a partnership between St. Petersburg College and Pinellas County Schools \u2013 is changing the way teachers learn to teach. This program prepares SPC students to teach grades K-6 and provides an endorsement in ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Reading. Designed for recent high school graduates, this program enables students to hit the ground running by tailoring general education classes to equip future teachers with the content knowledge in critical subjects.<\/p>\n

Grego emphasized need for content knowledge<\/h3>\n

\"IMG_2264<\/a>Dr. Grego emphasized the need for elementary education teachers to have the critical content knowledge needed to teach elementary students in order to prepare them for the future.\u00a0 He applauded SPC for sharing his vision for the future of educators.<\/p>\n

He commended Dr. Kimberly Hartman, Dean of SPC’s College of Education, for embracing this notion of ELITE educators.\u00a0 He confirmed his commitment to offer a paid internship for qualified students, as well as a guarantee that he would hire graduates of SPC who demonstrated quality teaching during his\/her internship.<\/p>\n
