If you qualify, you could get up to <strong>$4,000 per year<\/strong> towards your teaching education.<\/p>\n<h3>SPC grad receives minority teachers scholarship<\/h3>\n<p>A recipient of the minority teachers scholarship for two years, Michael Wiggs knows first hand how much of a difference the scholarship can make. Wiggs\u2019 training at St. Petersburg College introduced him to what classroom management\u00a0tools he would need to\u00a0be successful in his 4<sup>th<\/sup> grade class.<\/p>\n<p>One of his favorite instructors at St. Petersburg College was Dr. Nancy Watkins. \u00a0In her\u00a0Classroom Management course, she read one of his favorite\u00a0quotes by Haim G. Ginott:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019ve come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It\u2019s my personal approach that creates the climate. It\u2019s my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child\u2019s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or dehumanized.\u201d<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He approaches each day in his class with this quote in mind. \u00a0The demands of teaching in high-needs schools can be intimidating. \u00a0It requires passion, dedication and perseverance. The FFMT Symposiums gave Wiggs the opportunity\u00a0to work in a school\u00a0where he will make a difference.<\/p>\n<p>Wiggs found his experience at St. Petersburg College to be amazing and thought the faculty and staff were phenomenal! \u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ffmt.org\/index.cfm?e=applicant-signup&amp;itemcategory=23514\">Florida Fund for Minority Teachers\u00a0scholarship <\/a>was an additional bonus to lessen his financial burden at college.<\/p>\n<p>The priority deadline for this minority teachers scholarship is August 1 for this fall.
