{"id":3189,"date":"2017-03-16T15:20:37","date_gmt":"2017-03-16T19:20:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/?p=3189"},"modified":"2024-02-12T08:33:01","modified_gmt":"2024-02-12T13:33:01","slug":"professional-development-teachers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/professional-development-teachers\/","title":{"rendered":"Professional Development for Teachers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The College of Education sponsors a trip to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/centers\/kennedy\/home\/index.html\"> Kennedy Space Center NASA <\/a>to provide <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/degrees-training\/education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">College of Education<\/a> students with STEM professional development that they can use in lesson planning and future instruction.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kennedyspacecenter.com\/info\">\u00a0<\/a> Spring<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kennedyspacecenter.com\/info\"> NASA <\/a>trip consisted of experiences such as a professional development workshop, exploring the Atlantis exhibit, Goddard Rocket Garden, Heroes and Legends exhibit, an IMAX movie, and touring the visitor\u2019s center.<\/p>\n<p>The professional development workshops are based on the belief that real-life problems capture students&#8217; interest and provoke critical thinking skills. Students learn and apply new knowledge to the problem-solving context. The teacher plays the role of facilitator, working with students to frame questions, structuring meaningful tasks, coaching knowledge development and social skills, and assessing what students have learned from the experience.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3191\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3191\" style=\"width: 273px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/03\/Kennedy-Space-Center.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3191\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/03\/Kennedy-Space-Center-273x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"273\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/03\/Kennedy-Space-Center-273x300.jpg 273w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/03\/Kennedy-Space-Center.jpg 549w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 273px) 100vw, 273px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3191\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rocket Garden<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/centers\/goddard\/visitor\/exhibits\/rocket_garden.html\">Goddard Rocket Garden<\/a> at NASA features many types of rockets and old flight hardware.\u00a0 Each piece in the collection is a real artifact.\u00a0 All that are on display are real, even though certain components have been removed for safety.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kennedyspacecenter.com\/explore-attractions\/all-attractions#IncludeWithAdmission\">Heroes and Legends Exhibit <\/a>includes the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.\u00a0 Ninety three Americans are on exhibit with the space exploration journeys of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo.<\/p>\n<p>Interactive\u00a0kiosks provide the stories of each of the Hall of Fame inductees.\u00a0 A four dimensional theater allows you to join four of the heroes during a dangerous stage of their<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3161\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3161\" style=\"width: 257px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/Heros-Legends.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3161\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/Heros-Legends-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"257\" height=\"345\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/Heros-Legends-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/Heros-Legends-768x1027.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/Heros-Legends-766x1024.jpg 766w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/education-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/Heros-Legends.jpg 1139w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 257px) 100vw, 257px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3161\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Heroes and Legends<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>mission.\u00a0 The heroes description characteristics include\u00a0&#8212;
