St. Petersburg College’s student newspaper, The Sandbox News<\/a>, recently won five journalism awards from the Florida Society of News Editors (FSNE) competition. The student division contained entries from multiple state colleges.<\/p>\n

The Sandbox tied with USF\u2019s Oracle for the most amount of awards received. Five awards were won by SPC students, which included two first-place winners.<\/p>\n

The online newspaper is written and produced by students, who include writers from the college’s Mass Communications classes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Aug. 10, Sandbox advisor Professor Cindy Kuropas will take the students to the awards ceremony in Naples to receive their awards.<\/p>\n

“This exciting event will allow students to speak to the managing editors and writers of Florida\u2019s best-known newspapers like the Tampa Bay Times, the Miami Herald, the Orlando Sentinel, and more,” Kuropas said.<\/p>\n
