Empty streets
\nSleeping traffic lights pulse yellow
\nTwo parked police cruisers
\nVomit red and blue incandescence
\nupon the convenient store\u2019s walls and windows
\nA discarded hammer lying in shattered glass
\nJagged shard showcasing a chunk of misplaced flesh.<\/span><\/p>\n

Security system shrieks electronic distress
\nEchoing out into the vacant night
\nRicocheting down acoustic neighborhood streets
\nDarkened office building absorbs muffled wavelengths
\nWhere a teen with glassy bloodshot eyes
\nHaphazardly examines a deep fleshy wound
\nMortality revealed beneath a smooth epidermal fa\u00e7ade.<\/span><\/p>\n

Combat boots anchor feet to tilting asphalt
\nKeeping a twelve pack of Miller High Life
\nfrom toppling over
\nHead balanced between knees
\nConsciousness seduced by whispers of release
\nWound twitching muscle spasms
\nof a scar slowly forming.<\/span><\/p>\n

A police cruiser approaches
\nSpotlight searching driveways and front yards
\nThen sweeping across to the parking lots
\nCutting strips of detail into the formless void
\nTowing reality in its wake.<\/span><\/p>\n

Randy Goggin<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>is a student at St. Petersburg College, currently working towards entry into the B.S.-Biology program, with the intention of pursuing a career as a wildlife biologist. His writing focuses mostly on prose, with a particular interest in science fiction and fantasy, but he also enjoys writing contemporary fiction centering on the internal struggles of humanity in dealing with the co-existence of darkness and light within the human heart.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
