{"id":300,"date":"2013-01-30T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-01-30T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/communication\/?p=300"},"modified":"2024-01-30T15:31:00","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T20:31:00","slug":"poetry-3-am-student-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/communications-educational-information\/poetry-3-am-student-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Poetry &#8211; 3 AM &#8211; Student Work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">Empty streets<br \/>\nSleeping traffic lights pulse yellow<br \/>\nTwo parked police cruisers<br \/>\nVomit red and blue incandescence<br \/>\nupon the convenient store\u2019s walls and windows<br \/>\nA discarded hammer lying in shattered glass<br \/>\nJagged shard showcasing a chunk of misplaced flesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt; text-align: start;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">Security system shrieks electronic distress<br \/>\nEchoing out into the vacant night<br \/>\nRicocheting down acoustic neighborhood streets<br \/>\nDarkened office building absorbs muffled wavelengths<br \/>\nWhere a teen with glassy bloodshot eyes<br \/>\nHaphazardly examines a deep fleshy wound<br \/>\nMortality revealed beneath a smooth epidermal fa\u00e7ade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt; text-align: start;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">Combat boots anchor feet to tilting asphalt<br \/>\nKeeping a twelve pack of Miller High Life<br \/>\nfrom toppling over<br \/>\nHead balanced between knees<br \/>\nConsciousness seduced by whispers of release<br \/>\nWound twitching muscle spasms<br \/>\nof a scar slowly forming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt; text-align: start;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">A police cruiser approaches<br \/>\nSpotlight searching driveways and front yards<br \/>\nThen sweeping across to the parking lots<br \/>\nCutting strips of detail into the formless void<br \/>\nTowing reality in its wake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 18.0pt; text-align: start;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">Randy Goggin<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #333333;\">is a student at St. Petersburg College, currently working towards entry into the B.S.-Biology program, with the intention of pursuing a career as a wildlife biologist.
