Last week, I had the great honor of hosting for the fifth year in a row, the Pizza and Poetry Open Mic at the Seminole Campus. This year, like previous years, was full of brave, thoughtful student voices and a warm, welcoming audience that encourages and inspires those voices to be heard.<\/p>\n

Our special guest poets included, Dennis ‘D-Rod the Poet’ Rodney,\u00a0host of “Poetry Is…”,\u00a0 a nationally-syndicated poetry show on WMNF radio, Black on Black Rhyme Poetry Troupe and Dennis ‘Amadeus’ Lemmerman, co-facilitator of Tampa Bay Poetry Workshop, Black on Black Rhyme Poetry Troupe. They lent us their energy, passion and dedication to community-building for our event. Their work was stellar and connection with students undeniable.<\/p>\n

For those faculty who joined us, thank you again for your commitment to students and out of the class support. Just seeing your faces in the audience does a lot to show students our dedication to their ideas, interests, and college experience outside of the classroom.<\/p>\n

If you enjoyed the work of Dennis Rodney (determinedpoet@gmail.com<\/a>) and Dennis Lemmerman (dennisamadeus87@gmail.com<\/a>), please keep their contact information handy, as they are available for booking across a variety of student engagement events and programs. They are both professional poets whose bios are impressive and illustrative of tremendous local talent we can tap for our programs.<\/p>\n

Although I will be transferring to the St. Petersburg\/Gibbs Campus in the fall, I look forward to keeping Poetry Month alive on the Seminole Campus with the help of Jennifer Gregor, Dennis Ward, and Shelbey Rosengarten, all of whom have already pledged their Pizza and Poetry Open Mic loyalty with support and enthusiasm to keep it going.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
