High school seniors have a lot of decisions to make regarding college application, so look for a St. Petersburg College<\/a> representative at your school this fall, who will help you find answers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the Apply Yourself Florida<\/strong> initiative, which is an effort to increase the number of low-income and first-generation students applying to college, SPC’s Recruitment Services team is going into Pinellas and Pasco County high schools during the months of October and November to walk students through SPC\u2019s application process. As an added bonus, all application fees are waived<\/strong> at these events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe do this big drive every October,\u201d said Jacob Wortock, SPC\u2019s Director of Recruitment Services. \u201cWe work with the counselors on the school campuses to come in and meet with students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SPC promotes the event in advance, so students can be ready with information needed for their college application, so look for announcements at your school for when SPC reps will be on your campus. You’ll be invited to ask questions and can even be walked through your SPC application, which can be a confusing process for someone who has never navigated it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you’ve applied, Wortock says his team will be sure to keep you connected with SPC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe invite applicants to open house events and to come in for tours or fun events like basketball games, movies on the lawn and more,\u201d Wortock said. \u201cWe don\u2019t just say, \u2018See you next Fall!\u2019 \u2013 we want to keep them connected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wortock said the annual initiative fulfills the college\u2019s visionary commitment to economic mobility, in which the goal is to prepare students for high-wage, high-need careers, which will contribute to their economic success, improve the quality of life within our community, and help to end generational cycles of poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Apply Yourself events open doors,\u201d Wortock said. \u201cWe can provide information and get future students connected and prepared for college. And once they apply, whether that finish a program, a semester or a class, we can be a resource for them.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
