{"id":20,"date":"2016-07-28T23:50:17","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T23:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/civic-engagement\/?p=20"},"modified":"2024-01-30T15:17:40","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T20:17:40","slug":"civic-engagement-call-to-artists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/civic-engagement\/civic-engagement-call-to-artists\/","title":{"rendered":"Call to Artists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Center for Civic Learning and Community Engagement is proud to announce their fall art exhibits, titled\u00a0<strong>Propaganda, Protest and Satire. <\/strong>The exhibits, which will be displayed at the St. Petersburg College Downtown Campus art walkway and Allstate Campus art hallway August 17 \u2013 November 16, will display aspects of political and civic thought including patriotism, community involvement, dissonance and propaganda. Artists are encouraged to interpret the art of politics to include issues of social justice, the community, and the individual\u2019s place within.<\/p>\n<p>These exhibits are the first of a series of events during the Fall semester called The Art of Politics: The Art of the Possible, which is designed to illustrate the diverse threads of civic thought and expression often represented through art, whether it be politically motivated art or meaningful civic dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>Other events this fall include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/civic-engagement\/?attachment_id=21\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-21 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/civic-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/08\/SPC-Art-of-Politics-199x300.png\" alt=\"SPC Art of Politics\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/civic-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/08\/SPC-Art-of-Politics-199x300.png 199w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/civic-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/08\/SPC-Art-of-Politics-768x1157.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/civic-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/08\/SPC-Art-of-Politics-679x1024.png 679w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/civic-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/08\/SPC-Art-of-Politics.png 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a>Civic Public Mural Art: Murals will be on display from Sept-Oct. at the Seminole, Gibbs and Downtown Campuses<\/li>\n<li>The Art of Civic Dialogue Workshops: In partnership with USF, students will explore the role of art in positive civic dialogue and produce pieces to share with the Mayor and the community at large. Oct. 14 and 21 at USF campus; Oct. 27 at St. Petersburg City Hall steps<\/li>\n<li>A Silent Message in a Tweeting World: \u00a0A panel discussion led by local author Peter Kageyama addressing the issues of political art in all its forms, including the role of art in the 2016 political arena, which is saturated with terse, ephemeral electronic messages.\u00a0Nov. 1, Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Art exhibition instructions<\/h5>\n<p>Artists interested in having their work displayed in the Propaganda, Protest and Satire exhibits can note the following specifications:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Work Media:<\/strong> All welcome<br \/>\nWork Size: Up to 5\u2032 x 5\u2032; weight limit is 50 pounds\/hanging cable. Please advise if modifications or accommodations for art are necessary.<br \/>\nArt drop off:\u00a0 August 17, 1 \u2013 3 p.m. or by appointment as needed<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submission review:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/web.spcollege.edu\/survey\/21875\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artists can\u00a0submit 1 \u2013 3 works for review online by clicking here.<\/a>Please submit .jpeg images that clearly depict the works.\u00a0You will be prompted to\u00a0include title card information (Name, Title, Medium, Size, Price) with your submission, indicate\u00a0any special needs for the piece and choose which campus you prefer. Faculty and administration have the right to refusal. Subjects should not depict nudity and should be appropriate for public viewing. Artists will receive emailed letters of acceptance, along with artist contracts and additional instructions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Delivery:<\/strong> Art should be delivered to the St. Petersburg College Downtown campus, located at 244 2nd Avenue North. Artists will be allowed to park in the parking garage for art delivery. The art space is located on the second floor of the parking garage.
