Did\nyou know the way you breathe can make a huge impact on your stress levels?&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We don\u2019t typically stop to think about breathing.&nbsp; It\u2019s just something we do naturally.&nbsp; Stop a moment now and notice how you\u2019re breathing.&nbsp; Is it shallow? Or are you breathing fully? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits of Breathing Properly<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Proper breathing techniques can help rid toxins from the body, decrease fatigue, improve sleep, calm the nervous system, and reduce stress, all of which are very important to staying healthy and alert on your career path and in general in life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ready, Set&#8230;Breathe!<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few exercises you can do now to begin feeling\ncalmer.&nbsp; For a demonstration of these\nbreathing techniques and additional wellness tips, go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/spcollege.workplace.com\/100035898210688\/videos\/237702610769678\/\">Career\nServices Hub group on Workplace<\/a>. Go to minute 19:23 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/spcollege.workplace.com\/100035898210688\/videos\/237702610769678\/\">Work-Related\nWellness Tips<\/a> recording to see the following in action:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4-7-8<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The 4-7-8 breathing technique, also known as the \u201crelaxing\nbreath,\u201d involves breathing in for 4 seconds, holding the breath for 7 seconds,\nand exhaling for 8 seconds.&nbsp; Repeat a few\ntimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Alternate Nostril Breathing<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Inhale through both nostrils.&nbsp; Then, press your finger against your left\nnostril to close it and exhale through the right.&nbsp; Keeping the left nostril closed, inhale\nthrough the right nostril.&nbsp; Next, change\nsides, exhaling through the left nostril and inhaling.&nbsp; Continue alternating closing each nostril to\ncomplete a full breath.&nbsp; Repeat a few\ncycles.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Deep Exhale<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Breathe regularly.&nbsp; As you exhale, bend at the waist as comfortable.&nbsp; Then, expel all the air you can until you feel you cannot exhale anymore.&nbsp; This pushes all the stagnant air out of your lungs.&nbsp; You will naturally draw in a deep breath when finished.&nbsp; Repeat a couple times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Take it Easy!<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>As you ease into these breath-work practices, start with doing these for only a few minutes a day.&nbsp; In short, our brains typically aren\u2019t used to being so well oxygenated.&nbsp; So, you\u2019ll want to start s-l-o-w-l-y.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use these relaxation techniques in challenging moments.
