In 2019, Door of Clubs, Inc., an organization that provides targeted college recruitment through engagement with student clubs conducted a study of 12,875 Gen Z college students and found the following workplace trends: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Gen Z has an eight second attention span<\/strong><\/li><li><strong> Gen Z is The Shark Tank Generation<\/strong><\/li><li><strong> Gen Z are interested in working for large employers<\/strong><\/li><li><strong> Gen Z want to work for a company five plus years<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/careers-internships\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2019\/06\/Gen-Z.jpg\" alt=\"A group of the Generation Z population sitting working on electronic devices.\" class=\"wp-image-9087\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/careers-internships\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2019\/06\/Gen-Z.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/careers-internships\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2019\/06\/Gen-Z-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> SPC\u2019s career services professionals are equipped and ready to prepare our Gen Z population for the workplace through a variety of career related services and resources. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Click here (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/go.spcollege.edu\/careers_contactus\/\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a> to find the career service professional on your campus or online.&nbsp;SPC faculty and staff can also request a career services professional come to your classroom and present to students on a variety of career related topics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gen Z has an eight second attention span:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Fact: Gen Z has an eight second attention span versus 12 seconds for millennials. This attention span coincides with the mere six second average time that a human resource recruiter or employer will spend reviewing an individual resume. Students must be able to catch the reader\u2019s attention in a concise, relateable, and error free manner.<strong>&nbsp; <br>SPC Career Services can help students with their resumes and cover letter writing skills through <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/spcollege.optimalresume.com\/modules\/documentcenter.php\" target=\"_blank\">Optimal Resume<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Shark Tank Generation:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Door of Clubs Inc., Generation Z is the Shark Tank generation and they want to be able to pitch their ideas to an employer or supervisor. In order to be successful, students will need to craft a 60 second elevator speech or pitch and be prepared to network with human resource recruiters and employers. The pitch must be able to quickly catch the listener\u2019s attention about who you are, what you\u2019re studying, and your career goals. A great pitch will help the listener to determine how they can help you with your career goals.<br><strong>SPC Career Services can help students with elevator speech preparation and skills.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gen Z and large employers:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Fact: Gen Z is 37% more interested in working for large employers versus millennials, and will consider 24 employers for their first job. SPC\u2019s Handshake, an online job search resource, will help students find large employers who offer internship and job opportunities. Getting started with Handshake is easy. Students can activate their account today by <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"logging in (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/spcollege.joinhandshake.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\">logging in<\/a> with their SPC email address, or click on the Handshake link in MyCourses under Career Planning.<br><strong>SPC Career Services and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/spcollege.joinhandshake.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Handshake<\/a> can help students expand their list of employers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gen Z want to work for a company five plus years.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Fact: 58% of Gen Z want to work for a company five plus years. To find the right company, students must prepare and understand the interview process.&nbsp; They must anticipate interview questions, articulate their most marketable skills, and showcase their abilities for the job. Students should also understand that they are interviewing the company. Knowing the right questions to ask in an interview will help to determine whether the company will be a good fit for them.<br> <strong>SPC Career Services can help students<\/strong> <strong>with<\/strong> <strong>Interviewing and Salary Negotiation skills.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a lot for Gen Z to do to prepare themselves as they enter the workplace.
