The holidays are an excellent time to network!\u00a0 And although there is often \u201cSecret Santas\u201d \u2013 it\u2019s not the time to keep your job search a secret.\u00a0\u00a0 As you sit around the table for a holiday feast, be sure to let your family and friends know that you\u2019re looking for a job.\u00a0 Here are some tips for networking.<\/p>\n
Start Close to Home:\u00a0 Let your family know you\u2019re in the market for a new job.\u00a0\u00a0 Family members are often like a built-in fan club.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They know the most about you and they\u2019re often happy to brag about all your accomplishments.\u00a0 Remember, Mom and Dad may have connections that you don\u2019t know about.\u00a0\u00a0 Their colleagues and friends may well be the ticket to your new job opportunity.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Be sure to include that \u201conce-a-year\u201d relative that you only see at the holiday table too.\u00a0\u00a0 The more you spread the word, the better your chances for landing that job.<\/p>\n
Mix and Mingle:\u00a0 Be sure to accept the invitations to all of the holiday social gatherings.\u00a0\u00a0 When meeting someone new at a party causally ask about their career and let them know what you are up to.\u00a0 It\u2019s not the time to be shy.\u00a0\u00a0 Have a few resumes in your car, just in case you have the opportunity to deliver it to a potential employer or someone who can pass it along to one.<\/p>\n
Reach Out:\u00a0 Haven\u2019t talked to a good friend in a while?\u00a0 The holidays are a perfect excuse to get back in touch.\u00a0\u00a0 Why not get together for lunch or a cup of coffee.\u00a0\u00a0 One friend could expand your network countless times.\u00a0 After all, they have family and friends that can help spread the word for you too.<\/p>\n
Networking is one of the simplest ways to get a job.\u00a0 All you have to do is socialize and talk with your friends and family.\u00a0\u00a0 The one network connection that you make this holiday season may land you that new job.<\/p>\n
