With many nurses retiring, the economy recovering and the health care needs of an aging population increasing, Florida may soon face a critical nursing shortage. Salaries and opportunities for advancement also are expected to continue to increase.<br \/>\n<em>Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Career Opportunities<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Hospitals<\/li>\n<li>Clinics<\/li>\n<li>Long-term care facilities<\/li>\n<li>Physician offices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>You Will Learn<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Theoretical instruction and clinical experience in medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric and geriatric nursing<\/li>\n<li>Theoretical instruction and clinical experience in acute, long term and community settings<\/li>\n<li>Personal, family, community and mental health concepts<\/li>\n<li>Pharmacology and medication administration<\/li>\n<li>Legal and ethical requirements of the profession<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>The SCENE<\/h3>\n<p>The Simulation Center for Excellence in Nursing Education (SCENE) is a multi-million dollar state-of-the-art simulation lab which provides a supportive environment in a realistic clinical setting for students to learn and master nursing skills. The SCENE is a safe, non-threatening teaching\/learning environment which fosters the development of the level of critical thinking essential for the professional nurse.<\/p>\n<p>The area is comprised of four rooms, two of which are set up as our hospital ICU\/ER simulation units. These rooms contain medium- and high-fidelity simulators which offer a wide age range from infants to adults and are capable of simulating various clinical scenarios. We have medium fidelity simulators capable of programmable heart sounds, lung sounds, bowel sounds, blood pressure and heart rhythms.<\/p>\n<p>In addition we have high fidelity simulators with physiological appropriate responses to treatment interventions, including airway and oxygenation management, fluid administration, defibrillation and the administration of drugs. One SCENE room has five Laerdal VitalSim medium fidelity simulators (2 infant, 1 adolescent and 2 adults) as well as one METI (Medical Education Technologies, Inc) ECS (Emergency care Simulator).
