\"Handshake<\/a>On Thursday April 16, the Tarpon Springs Career Services staff hosted an event called, \u201cIt All Starts with a Handshake\u201d in the courtyard next to the Student Life and Leadership building.\u00a0 A tent was set up with 3 tables, each as a different station.\u00a0 Students were given an event card and had to visit three stations to get their card stamped. The first station was how to tie a tie, the second was to practice giving a brief introduction, and the third was to practice a proper business handshake.\u00a0 After receiving all 3 stamps, the student returned to the sign in table to be given a coupon from Chick-fil-A for a free milkshake.<\/p>\n

Students had a lot of fun, and even had an attendee from the community who happened to be on campus at the library and she mentioned she has never been instructed on a proper handshake!<\/p>\n

Top ten examples of bad business handshakes:<\/b><\/p>\n

10.\u00a0 The Sweaty Palm \u2013 self-explanatory, usually shows nervousness<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0 The Lobster Claw \u2013 pinching your fingers between their thumb and fingertips<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 The Fist Bump \u2013 never acceptable in business<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 The Wrestler \u2013 extending the hand forward with the palm down exercises control<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 The Phantom \u2013 too quick as if too busy to shake hands<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 The Lingerer \u2013 an awkward handshake that is more than two small shakes<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 The Decliner – self-explanatory, but could be due to injury or fragility<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 The Tickler \u2013 fingers awkwardly touch the other palm<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 The Vice \u2013 a crushing grip<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 The Dead Fish \u2013 lacks strength<\/p>\n
