{"id":1329,"date":"2019-01-18T10:30:32","date_gmt":"2019-01-18T15:30:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/business-educational-information\/?p=1329"},"modified":"2023-06-23T12:42:51","modified_gmt":"2023-06-23T16:42:51","slug":"fall-business-expo-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/business-educational-information\/fall-business-expo-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Business Expo 2018 Reveals Need for Insurance Professionals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At the Fall Business Expo 2018, the Hospitality and Tourism, Risk Management and Insurance communities came together with SPC&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/future-students\/degrees-training\/business\">College of Business<\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/go.spcollege.edu\/cob\/?utm_Source=social\" target=\"_blank\">s<\/a> to offer employment preparation and career development for SPC students and alumni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Workshops, advising, networking, club information, and internship<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/go.spcollege.edu\/intern\/?utm_source=social\" target=\"_blank\"> <\/a>&nbsp;and employment opportunities were available to all attending. For roughly three hours, SPC students and alumni were able to take in the valuable advice of professional guest speakers and recruiters. Other highlights were catering and a raffle giveaway. A few lucky students left with not only experience and a network, but gift-cards and an iPad, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Demand High for Insurance Industry Professionals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"769\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/business-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/12\/P1380315-59-1024x769.jpg\" alt=\"insurance professionals\" class=\"wp-image-1347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/business-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/12\/P1380315-59-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/business-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/12\/P1380315-59-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/business-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/12\/P1380315-59-768x577.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/business-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/12\/P1380315-59.jpg 2044w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dave Newell of\nthe Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA) shared what the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/go.spcollege.edu\/InsuranceAS\/?utm_source=social\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Insurance<\/a>\nand Risk Management industry was looking for. For those who may have never\nconsidered it, there is a great demand for individuals of all careers; home inspectors,\ncommercial inspectors, claims, workers compensation, and injury specialists are\nneeded, as are managers, HR professionals, IT professionals, marketing\nprofessionals, and social media specialists. Additionally, there is need for\nonsite talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you like data, if you like technology, if you like working with numbers, there\u2019s a place for you in the industry,\u201d Newell said. There are a lot of mid-level managers retiring from our business, so we\u2019re losing a lot of education and institutional knowledge. So, we need people who want to learn, that want to grow, that want to be community minded and strive to help people.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Insurance is, at its core, a responsive industry. For worldly disasters like hurricanes and fires, those employed in the field can help those in need: those looking for guidance, while also adapting to societal changes. New and complicated issues, like those surrounding autonomous vehicle protection, drone liability, active shooter coverage and medical marijuana, require discussion that those working in the insurance industry must respond to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Newell\nexplains, \u201cPeople see a need, and create the product for that need. The state of the industry is ever-changing, and is always ready to welcome students and graduates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cAnything\nwe can do to help you as students, we\u2019re more than happy to do it, Newell said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interested\nin a career?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The College of Business is also home to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/?utm_source=social\" target=\"_blank\">St. Petersburg College<\/a> also offers degrees in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"
