Empty Bowls feeds the hungry

On November 2, 2019, the SPC Fine Arts Department hosted its fourth annual Empty Bowls for RCS Pinellas event at the Clearwater Campus.  This event is coordinated by the SPC Ceramics Faculty Kim Kirchman and Jonathan Barnes,  staff McKenzie Smith  and students, along with partners Barbara Ott from Highwater Clays, and Emily Shrider from Raymond James.

At the event, attendees were able to choose a handmade ceramic bowl, have a bowl of soup,  bread and a dessert, all while enjoying live music. Upon leaving, attendees kept their bowls to remind them of all the empty bowls that are in our community.

The bowls were made by SPC faculty, staff and students, along with local artists, USF Students and students and staff from the City of St. Petersburg rec centers. Soups were donated by Russo’s NY Pizzeria, Whistle Stop Café, Restaurant Associates and First Watch Eastbay. Music was provided by Dr. Dave Pignatello.

This event raised over $10,000 for RCS Pinellas, which operates a food pantry in Clearwater, along with the food pantries on the SPC Campuses.

The event was well attended, as you can see in the time lapse video:

We look forward to Empty Bowls for RCS Pinellas in 2020.
