The National Council on Black American African Affairs (NCBAA), Dr. Johnnie Ruth Clarke Chapter held an orientation on October 14th at St. Petersburg College Gibbs campus for Dr. Johnnie Ruth Clarke scholars. The orientation had approximately 80 participants that included JRC scholars, parents, SPC departments such as Advising, Career Services, Learning Resources, Student Life and Leadership, and Accessibility Services. Students departed the orientation with a rejuvenated mind set of the numerous resources available to promote student success. La Crecia Wright quizzed the students on the requirements for renewal of the scholarship. In the question and answer session, students asked thought provoking questions to increase their knowledge and understanding of the scholarship requirements.
At the conclusion of the orientation, students and parents were thankful for the opportunity to receive a scholarship in honor of Dr. Johnnie Ruth Clarke, a legend in the community that dedicated her life to helping others. A special thanks to Dr. Keron Jean-Baptiste, other NCBAA members (Lolita Brown, Wanda McCawthan, Dr. Meg Delgato, Professor Sheree Greer, and Yulonder Butts), and SPC Gibbs staff for supporting the orientation.
The chapter will celebrate 20 years this year. This is a great accomplishment we have made in transforming lives in the community. We are open to any suggestions as we commence celebrating this anniversary.
