American pianist Sean Kennard will perform The Virtuoso Pianist: Music by Chopin and Liszt at the SPC Music Center on Friday March 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Kennard has won top prizes in competitions around the world, including the Queen Elisabeth Competition of Belgium. Pianist Richard Goode described Kennard as “an extraordinary pianist, one of the most gifted I have ever heard.” The Washington Post applauded Kennard’s “powerful and involved music making,” calling him “a strong, luminous pianist,” while Fanfare said his playing is “full of life and sparkle.”
He has appeared as soloist with orchestras around the world, and performed solo and chamber recitals throughout Asia, Europe, South America, and the United States. Later this year, he will perform a nine-city concert tour in China, play recitals in Sydney and Melbourne, and serve as guest artist and faculty at a new piano festival located in Australia’s Gold Coast. He has studied at the Curtis Institute, the Juilliard School, and Yale University’s School of Music. Kennard joined the faculty of Stetson University’s School of Music in 2017 as piano area chair.
This event is free for SPC faculty, staff and students. Tickets will be $10 at the door, and groups of a dozen or more will receive a $2 discount per person. For more information, call 727-341-4360.
