{"id":9142,"date":"2016-11-01T07:52:05","date_gmt":"2016-11-01T11:52:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts\/?p=9142"},"modified":"2024-01-30T13:20:56","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T18:20:56","slug":"creative-loafing-features-mira-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts-humanities-design-educational-information\/creative-loafing-features-mira-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Creative Loafing features SPC MIRA students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Creative Loafing gave SPC MIRA (Music Industry Recording Arts) students Derell Parrott, Keturah Allyson, Andrey Gleis and Andrew Holnesss some attention for their volunteer work at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Oct. 13-16.<\/p>\n<h2>Creative Loafing article on Jazz Holiday<\/h2>\n<p>In Ray Roa&#8217;s\u00a0Oct. 10 <em>Creative Loafing<\/em> article, \u00a0the four St. Petersburg College MIRA students \u00a0were featured for their\u00a0volunteer work at the Jazz Holiday festival.<\/p>\n<p>Clearwater Jazz Foundation CEO Steve Weinberger said he enjoyed working on the event with the students, two of whom found job opportunities there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is extremely rewarding to watch the students gain valuable contacts and even job opportunities,\u201d Weinberger said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cltampa.com\/music\/local\/article\/20836483\/from-jazz-to-jobs-an-spc-program-helps-students-find-realworld-work-in-the-music-industry\">Check out the story here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>MIRA students volunteer for Recycled Tunes<\/h3>\n<p>SPC MIRA students are also volunteering to help the Gasparilla Music Foundation promote Recycled Tunes, a county-wide effort to gather gently-used musical instruments for Pinellas County students in need.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2013, SPC students have also volunteered at the Gasparilla Music Festival in downtown Tampa. It is this collaboration that led to the current partnership between SPC and the Foundation with the Recycled Tunes project.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts\/spc-partners-with-recycled-tunes-to-launch-music-instrument-drive\/\">Recycled Tunes<\/a> and how you can donate instruments for local music students.<\/p>\n<h4>SPC&#8217;s MIRA program prepares students for careers in music<\/h4>\n<p>St. Petersburg College&#8217;s Music Industry Recording Arts program helps aspiring artists learn real-world skills to become an arts and entertainment technology experts.<\/p>\n<p>The program offers a well-rounded, technology-based educational experience to student musicians, composers, producers, DJs, live-sound reinforcement enthusiasts, broadcast audio engineers, and post-production technologists. MIRA classes emphasize creative processes, technical training, business practices and entrepreneurial skills in a collaborative environment.<\/p>\n<h5>MIRA A.S.
