{"id":8368,"date":"2015-07-15T14:54:50","date_gmt":"2015-07-15T18:54:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts\/?p=8368"},"modified":"2024-01-30T13:15:44","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T18:15:44","slug":"mira-program-partnership-with-noise-makers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts-humanities-design-educational-information\/mira-program-partnership-with-noise-makers\/","title":{"rendered":"SPC partners with local rock camp to provide instruments to local kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The rhythm of summer activity on the St. Petersburg\/Gibbs Campus was punctuated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noise-makers.org\/\">NoiseMakers<\/a>, a local rock camp that toured St. Petersburg College&#8217;s Music Industry Recording Arts (MIRA) program last week.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Patrick Hernly, Academic Chair of the college&#8217;s MIRA program and the staff at NoiseMakers have formed a unique partnership that resulted in St. Petersburg College writing a grant from the Fender Music Foundation to supply instruments for the NoiseMakers\u2019 nonprofit partner \u2013 Operation Co-Exist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spcollege.edu\/mira\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learn more about SPC&#8217;s MIRA program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5>NoiseMakers and Operation Co-Exist impacting the community<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/IMG_2049.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-8371 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/IMG_2049-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2049\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts-humanities-design-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/IMG_2049-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts-humanities-design-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/IMG_2049.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>NoiseMakers is no ordinary music school.\u00a0 Partnering with musicians and offering music lessons to the community, it is located on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg.\u00a0 It also houses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.operationcoexist.org\/\">Operation Co-Exist<\/a> \u2013 a nonprofit organization that strives to improve the quality of life through the healing powers of music.\u00a0 They are specifically engaged in working with at-risk youth, which includes youth in the foster care system.<\/p>\n<h5>NoiseMakers tours MIRA and St. Petersburg\/Gibbs Campus<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/IMG_2050.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-8372 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/IMG_2050-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2050\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts-humanities-design-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/IMG_2050-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.spcollege.edu\/arts-humanities-design-educational-information\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/07\/IMG_2050.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Four staff and 17 students toured the MIRA facility and St. Petersburg\/Gibbs Campus.\u00a0 Students received a mini seminar in the recording studio by faculty member Dave Greenberg who wowed the students with a demonstration of recording software.\u00a0 After the tour, the students were presented with string instruments provided by the Fender grant.\u00a0 The tour culminated with a jam session in the recording studio.
