Dr. Cory Alexander <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

St. Petersburg College (SPC) welcomes Dr. Cory Alexander as fulltime Humanities and Fine Arts Professor, overseeing Choral and Vocal Activities in the Music Department. <\/p>\n\n\n

Dr. Cory Alexander<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Dr. Alexander most recently served as Associate Director of Choral Activities at the University of Florida (UF) where he directed Men’s Glee Club and Women’s Chorale. He taught vocal, choral, and humanities courses including the Quest and UF Honors programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Alexander currently serves the Florida chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) as Repertoire & Resources Chair for College and University Choirs, and chairs Government Relations Subcommittee for FLACDA Diversity Task Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A professional baritone, he has appeared as a soloist with the Central Florida Symphony Orchestra, Central Florida Master Choir, UNCG Opera Theatre, Bel Canto Company (Greensboro, NC), and Musica Sacra (Midland, TX). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Alexander holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting with vocal performance cognate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the University of Florida in Gainesville, and the Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal music education from Central College in Pella, Iowa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Music at SPC<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Music AA Transfer <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SPC\u2019s Music and Music Education AA Transfer degrees (60 credits) are two-year programs that prepare students for transfer to University music programs in Performance, Music Education (Band, Chorus, Orchestra, General Music), and Music Therapy. Students earn Music State Common Perquisite credits in music lessons, music ensembles, music\/aural theory, and student recital. Students also earn all 36 general education liberal arts credits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music Industry Recording Arts (MIRA) AS Degree <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SPC\u2019s Music Industry Recording Arts (MIRA) AS degree (64 credits) is a two-year workforce program with technology focus. It prepares students to work as producers, audio engineers, composers\/songwriters in the music industry. The core curriculum includes courses in digital audio workstations, live sound engineering, studio recording techniques, critical listening, legal issues in music, practical music business, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audio Engineering and Production (AUDIOPE) Certificate<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SPC\u2019s Audio Engineering and Production (AUDIOPE) Certificate (24 credits) is a financial aid eligible certificate that includes instruction in digital audio workstations, studio recording techniques, acoustics, live sound and professional audio production.  The stand-alone certificate prepares workforce internships and employment. The 24 credits also count towards the MIRA-AS degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
