SPC’s Theatre Department <\/a>will present Tom Stoppard’s masterpiece, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead from March 30 through April 3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auditions will be held January 18-19 from 5:30 to 8 p.m<\/strong>., with callbacks on January 20 <\/strong>from 5:30-8 p.m. <\/strong>in the Arts Auditorium on the Clearwater Campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Showing events from the point of view of two minor characters from Shakespeare\u2019s grand tragedy Hamlet<\/em>, characters who have no control over their destiny, this comedy examines fate and asks, \u201cCan we ever really know what’s going on?\u201d \u201cAre answers as important as questions?\u201d \u201cWill Rosencrantz and Guildenstern (or Guildenstern and Rosencrantz) manage to discover the source of Hamlet’s malaise as requested by the new king?\u201d \u201cWill the mysterious players who are strolling around the castle reveal the secrets they evidently know?\u201d \u201cAnd whose serve is it?\u201d Directed by Betty-Jane Parks (who previously directed Medea and A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Rosencrantz will feature 15 performers, a stage crew of six.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Requirements:<\/strong> One Shakespeare monologue and one Tom Stoppard monologue, totaling no more than two minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rehearsals: <\/strong>Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Not all actors will be called for all rehearsals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rosencrantz <\/strong>and Guildenstern <\/strong>Childhood friends of Hamlet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Player<\/strong> A traveling actor<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hamlet <\/strong> Prince of Denmark, Nephew to Claudius, Son of Gertrude<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tragedians <\/strong>Performers traveling with The Player<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alfred <\/strong> A young tragedian, plays all the girl roles in the company<\/p>\n\n\n\n

King Claudius<\/strong> King of Denmark, uncle and stepfather to Hamlet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Queen Gertrude <\/strong> Wife to Claudius, mother to Hamlet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polonius <\/strong>Chief advisor to the King<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laertes <\/strong>Polonius’ son<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ophelia <\/strong>Polonius’ daughter, beloved of Hamlet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Horatio <\/strong>Friend to Hamlet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortinbras <\/strong>Nephew to the King of Norway<\/p>\n\n\n\n
