Earlier this year, the St. Petersburg College Foundation <\/a>and Leepa Rattner Museum o<\/a>f Art teamed up to refresh two existing installation sites on the college’s campuses. We started by renaming \u201cGallery 244\u201d, which is located on the second floor of SPC’s Downtown Center, CoCurate | 244 and contacting curators to curate group exhibits in the space. We also added fresh paint and furniture to create a more welcoming place for SPC affiliates to congregate. SoloSpace is a concept that supports artists by giving them a place where they can display a solo exhibitions. SoloSpace is currently located in the Art Way, on our Seminole campus, but is inherently nomadic and will eventually move locations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CoCurate | 244<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

On view in CoCurate | 244 is an exhibition titled Then & Now <\/em>installed by St. Petersburg curator Lillian Getgen. In curating this exhibit, Getgen aimed to illustrate the journey artists take as they evolve their individual stylistic attributes. This exhibition includes 2D visual art, digital pieces and 3D works. Then & Now <\/em>is on view until December 9 and can be viewed during normal hours of operation. SoloSpace<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

SoloSpace\u2019s most recent exhibit is from Jacksonville-based artist Kevin Mierez-Galo and titled A Common Thread. A Common Thread<\/em> is a fiber arts exhibit that offers a different approach to the ancient art forms of tapestry weaving and rug making. In this exhibit, Mierez-Galo shows an innate connection with weaving passed down ancestrally. He feels tapestry weaving allows him to honor his Salvadoran and Venezuelan ancestors, while making something thought provoking.
