Michael\u00a0T.\u00a0Jahosky, Assistant Professor of Humanities at St. Petersburg College,\u00a0routinely incorporates\u00a0the writings\u00a0of J.R.R. Tolkien\u00a0into his Humanities curriculum. The Good News of the Return of the King:The Gospel in Middle Earth<\/em> is his first book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jahosky says that although many people today reject Christianity for intellectual reasons, greater numbers of people are doing so because it does not engage their imagination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChristians must not only demonstrate that the Christian worldview is true, but that it is also good, beautiful, and relevant,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Good News of the Return of the King: The Gospel in Middle Earth<\/em> endeavors to show the truth, goodness, and beauty of Jesus Christ, the Gospel, and the biblical meta-narrative by engaging the\u00a0imagination through J.R.R. Tolkien\u2019s\u00a0Lord of the Rings<\/em>, as well as\u00a0The Hobbit\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0The Silmarillion<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn this book, I propose that J.R.R. Tolkien\u2019s The Lord of the Rings <\/em>is a story about what Jesus\u2019 parables are about: The Good News about the return of the king. As a work of imaginative fiction similar to Jesus\u2019 parables, The Lord of the Rings <\/em>can bypass both intellectual and imaginative objections to the Gospel and pull back the \u201cveil of familiarity\u201d that obscures the Gospel for many,\u201d Jahosky said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
