Check out some of the latest happenings and updates from St. Petersburg College Music<\/a> faculty members.<\/em><\/p>\n

Guitar faculty Joe Braccio<\/strong> is coordinating a masterclass and concert with internationally renowned guitarist Andrew York<\/a> at SPC on Oct. 20, 2018.<\/p>\n

Jeff Donovick<\/strong> is spearheading collaborations among SPC student composers, local artists and various productions, including bumper music for the 2018 SEmmy Awards<\/a>, music for the Gulf Coast MakerCon and Pinellas ComicCon, as well as with the Tarpon Performing Arts Center and Jon Petrelli Music and Rock Brothers Brewing.\u00a0He earned Avid Certified Instructor status for Sibelius notation software and also is offering instruction in Ableton Live 10 and Digital Performer 9 for MIDI orchestration and composition through the Contemporary Keyboards courses at SPC.\u00a0He ranked locally #1 for Electronica on ReverbNation.<\/p>\n

Dr. David Manson<\/strong> and MIRA faculty members Mark Feinman<\/strong> and Alejandro Arenas<\/strong> performed at the Miami International Jazz Fest<\/a> on April 27 with their Brazilian jazz group O Som Do Jazz<\/a>. Manson received an Individual Artist Grant<\/a> from the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance for music composition and scheduled a free concert of this music on Aug. 11 at the venue ARTS46\/4. He also contracted musicians and performed in Magnetic Fields: Sonic Abstractions<\/a> at the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts, directed by Chicago composer Renee Baker<\/a>, on July 28. He is coordinating a workshop with Venezuelan sound artist Gustavo Matamoros<\/a> at SPC on Aug. 23.<\/p>\n

Dr. Marilyn Michael<\/strong>, director of the 2018 Summer Vocal Institute and voice faculty at SPC, spotlighted a performance at the conclusion of the institute from the Opera Workshop class. The program, held June 15 at the Music Center at SPC, included arias, duets, and opera ensembles, including the famous “Va, pensiero” from Nabucco<\/em> by Verdi. The evening concluded with excerpts from Act I of Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan. Dr. Susan Robinson<\/strong> was the music director of the class. Professor Scott Cooper<\/strong>, full-time theater<\/a> professor on Clearwater Campus<\/a>,\u00a0was the guest\u00a0stage director, and Shawn Thomas<\/strong> was the accompanist. Dr. Michael assigned and rehearsed the roles as part of the students’\u00a0private voice lessons during this five-week intensive study of voice and opera.<\/p>\n

Susan Robinson<\/strong>\u00a0will be guest conducting the National Radio Symphony\u00a0in Moldova<\/a> on Sept. 5. The program will include the\u00a0\u00a0Russian Easter Overture <\/em>by Rimsky-Korsakov, Polovtsian Dances<\/em> by Borodin, and Symphony No. 5 <\/em>by Tchaikovsky.\u00a0On Dec. 8, she will conduct a concert with the Skagit Symphony<\/a> outside Seattle, Wash.\u00a0 It will be a holiday concert featuring the Master Chorale singing Magnificat <\/em>by Pergolesi.\u00a0 It will also include the Christmas Overture <\/em>by Nicolai, Karelia Suite<\/em> by Sibelius, and that perennial favorite, Nutcracker Suite\u00a0<\/em>by Tchaikovsky.<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

John Shaw <\/strong>(percussion) and Anna Kate Mackle<\/strong> (harp) premiered a new composition for harp and marimba, Labyrinth of Light<\/em>\u00a0by Nathan Daughtrey, at the Eastern Music Festival<\/a> on July 3.<\/p>\n

Voice faculty Linda Switzer<\/strong> will be presenting with classical guitarist Pepe Romero<\/a> at The Centro Asturiano in Ybor City on Oct. 19. Linda, along with Hillsborough Community College Professor of Music Mark Switzer, will be performing with him.<\/p>\n
